The Idea
To help start generating ideas for my Personal Camouflage, I firstly created a mind map on the camouflage side of the brief which helped me lead onto how I should go about linking it to a personal camouflage.

To start the mind map I looked into the dictionary definition of ’Camouflage’, which is:
Camouflage: Hide or disguise the presence of (a person, animal, or object) by means of camouflage.
This lead me to explore how people camouflage themselves whether it’s amongst society, peers, or certain aspects of their lives/personalities by not ‘wearing their hearts on their sleeves’. As well as looking into camouflage in its current form, such as the Army and animals natural adaptation to do so. By doing this I started to explore what makes their camouflages so effective and how I can incorporate this into my Personal Camouflage:

NATURAL CAMOUFLAGE:
Use - Protection | Safety | Hide/disguise from predators | Adapt to Habitat.
Attributes - Textures | Use of colours to help disguise | Limited colour choice, within a close spectrum | They use the natural lighting and shading effectively | Repetitive shapes/forms.
ARMY CAMOUFLAGE
Use - Protection | Safety | Hide/Disguise into surroundings from the enemy | Stealth Surprise attack | Under Cover/Incognito | Durable.
Attributes - Repetitive shapes/forms | Imitate natural/urban textures | Earthly colour themes.
~ Camouflage works by emphasising other points to give the idea of another shape being present ~
After continuing further exploration into camouflage, I started to find a way to link it in with my life and identity. I decided to design my personal camouflage around the way people ‘camouflage’ their personality/identity and life. Below I have created another mind map, however this one is about finding something about my life that I have camouflaged subconsciously over the years.

After creating this mind map, I came to the conclusion that I should make my personal camouflage about my childhood, due to me exploring the way people camouflage aspects of their lives and personalities. This is because I realised subconsciously I camouflage that part of my life as I don’t talk about it or like to reference it. Which also means I am camouflaging a big part of my personality, due to that time of my life making the person I am today.
I will be exploring more into this and how it can be portrayed through my design in ‘Development’…
